Public sector in Greece: 17.1% in April 2013 even if the total employment (denominator) has hugely declined in the last years. 621,764 civil servants among 3,636,042 employed people. One of the smallest public sectors in the EU. And this is not a new phenomenon. Check the graph below. It is recorded that among 16 EU MS that data was found for 2010 Greek public sector was the 4th smallest. However, Troika and Greek government proceed in redundancies of thousands civil servants in vital positions such as teachers, doctors and school guards.
